THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced marketer to lead our marketing and publicity efforts and help us build the Motto® brand alongside the founders. As the Director of PR & Communications, you will play a critical role in growing awareness of our company, securing placements in media, submitting to awards, and building a strong reputation as a leader in the industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and publicity strategy that supports our overarching business objectives and drives brand awareness and recognition.
  • Secure premium media coverage that highlights Motto's founders, business, thought leadership, and initiatives.

  • Come to the table with positive relationships with journalists/media/publications particularly in design, business, leadership, and brand-related sectors.

  • Create press releases, pitches, and press kit materials.

  • Provide administrative support for media, press-related/speaking/lecture/book-related events.

  • Lead brainstorms on story ideas and develop unique angles to pitch.

  • Own and manage our reputation in the media, overseeing and strengthening key relationships and leading strategy for our initiatives.

  • Shape our story in the business, startup/entrepreneur, and creative communities.

  • Suggest and submit to high-profile creative, entrepreneurship, women-focused awards to generate buzz around our company, work, and thinking.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities to submit to awards, secure placements in media outlets, and build relationships with industry influencers to enhance our brand's reputation and thought leadership.

  • Create and oversee the production of all marketing and publicity materials, including but not limited to website content, digital ads, social media content, press releases, and thought leadership articles.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in marketing and publicity, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing and publicity strategies that drive brand awareness and recognition.
  • Deep understanding of brand management, publicity, and media strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data and insights to drive informed decisions.

  • You're a problem-solver who figures out creative ways to succeed.
  • Your pitch emails are interesting, well-crafted, and persuasive. 
  • You deliver results and see yourself as an A player with a can-do attitude.
  • Happy juggling a few things at the same time without feeling overwhelmed.
  • You keep your cool and maintain a collected demeanor.

If you have knowledge or experience in these areas that's a big plus.

  • Experience in working with women founders is a major plus. 
  • An understanding of publications like Fast Company, Inc., Entrepreneur, Forbes, WSJ AdAge, and more.

TERMS

  • W2 available if based in New York, Texas, or South Carolina.
  • If not based in those three states, freelance contract position per week with the potential for full time W2 employment.
